Maldives Mandarin Oriental Hotel will open in 2025

Recently, DAMAC Properties, a real estate development company under Dubai’s DAMAC Group (one of the most important luxury real estate developers in the region), signed a contract with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to operate a new resort on a group of private islands in the Maldives.

The luxury resort, covering an area of 34 hectares, is currently under development and is scheduled to open in 2025. It will be the first attempt by DAMAC Group, known for its high-quality five-star hotels, in the tourism island project.

This Indian Ocean resort extends to three private islands on Bolidhuffaru Reef in South Male Atoll, and is easily accessible by a 20 minute boat ride from Vilana International Airport in Male. The resort is surrounded by the world-renowned white beaches and vibrant coral reefs of the Maldives, with picturesque scenery. Guests can enjoy various activities there, including culinary experiences offered by various specialty restaurants on the island, as well as health and water sports experiences.

The accommodation facilities at Mandarin Oriental Bolidhuffaru Reef consist of 130 independent villas, of which 61 are water villas and 66 are coastal villas, containing 10 branded residences. The villas range in area from 100 square meters to 600 square meters and will be the largest in the market. Each villa is private and quiet, with a private swimming pool and beautiful sea views. The group is collaborating with some international consultants to ensure that sustainable development best practices are followed throughout all development stages.

The resort has seven restaurants, including three specialty restaurants, an exclusive dining area, and a pool bar, ensuring guests have a variety of food choices during their stay. In addition, creative indoor and outdoor activity spaces will provide unique venues for meetings, social gatherings, and weddings.

The spacious fitness facilities will be located within the tropical garden of the resort, including 12 nursing suites, a vibrant swimming pool, saunas and steam rooms, and a beauty salon. The expert team of Wenhua Oriental Health and Wellness personnel will provide tailored experiences and the group’s iconic care.

Other leisure activities will include a water sports and a diving center, tennis court, a world-class children and youth club designed by international consultants, a swimming pool, and numerous private bays and beaches for sightseeing.

“The DAMAC brand is synonymous with luxury products and services, and we believe that the Maldives is perfect for us. DAMAC has expanded its global business beyond the Middle East, from the UK to Canada, and we are pleased to now expand back to the Maldives. We look forward to collaborating with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to manage our new resort on this beautiful island,” said Hussain Sajwani, Chairman and Founder of DAMAC Group.

“We continuously establish partnerships with world-class brands, which reflects DAMAC’s reputation and standards in luxury products. We believe that Wenhua Oriental Hotel Group will excel in fulfilling its mission,” Sajwani added.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is the owner and operator of the world’s most luxurious hotels, resorts, and residences, and has won numerous awards. The group started in Asia and has developed into a global brand. Currently, it operates 36 hotels and 7 residential projects in 24 countries and regions, with each property reflecting the group’s Eastern tradition and unique regional sense.

Wenhua Oriental is a member of the Jardine Matheson Group and owns a series of hotel and residential projects under development. “Wenhua Oriental focuses on developing its resort product portfolio and has been seeking entry into the Maldives for some time. This project provides the group with an excellent opportunity,” said James Riley, CEO of Wenhua Oriental Hotels Group.
